REST TRAINING DAY

REST Training Day is designed for community members who seek to understand the basic dynamics of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking and explore opportunities to volunteer with REST. The first half of the training consists of REST Training Day 101, and covers topics such as terms and definitions, risk factors, typical experiences in “the life,” recruitment tactics, pornography, and REST’s response to the dynamics of sex trafficking. In REST Training Day 102 we’ll cover trauma and its effect on the brain, boundaries, and the principles and practice of direct service.

For those interested in volunteering in direct service roles (Drop-In Center, UpLift Volunteer Drivers, Emergency Receiving Center, REST House, etc), the full REST Training Day 101 and 102 are required. For those interested in non-direct service roles (admin, etc), only RTD 101 is required. If you’re not interested in volunteering with REST, but would just like to learn more about the dynamics of sex trafficking and REST’s response, you are welcome to attend either 101 only or both sessions.

We are a Christian organization that desires to offer respectful services to individuals of all faith backgrounds. Our faith shows most strongly in our values of providing unconditional care, focusing on relationships, recognizing strengths, minimizing barriers, and walking with our clients on their journey to freedom, rather than acting as “saviors,” or attempting to proselytize. We don’t require faith engagement at REST. Instead, we simply offer a healing environment where survivors are free to incorporate their own spiritual beliefs or exploration in whatever way is comfortable for them.
