Community HERoes Among Us: Jana Riggan

Jana RIGGAN

greet magazine(Newcastle & Newport Hills and Mercer Island), publisher/area director

Jana publishes two Greet magazines. They are the People Magazine of the neighborhood, creating community by being that warm hello in their mailbox, and I partner with businesses whose ideal clients live in one of those neighborhoods.

If you could describe yourself in one word, what would that be and why?

Fun!

What is your favorite inspirational quote or best piece of advice given to you?

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Do you give back to the community with your team and work? If so, what does this look like?
Through our publications, we are able to highlight nonprofit organizations and share information on how people in our community are making a difference.

In honor of Women's History Month, can you spotlight a woman from either your life, history or your community who has personally inspired you?

It's hard to say - I admire different traits from different women.

As a woman community leader, how do you approach mentoring and supporting younger generations of women in your community to ensure a sustainable legacy of leadership and empowerment?

I work with teens and kids as junior writers, and am in the process of hiring a woman in her 20s to manage my content in one of my publications. Working with younger women and giving them a voice is something that I am able to do every month.
